Pregnant Women are Smug

While partaking in my daily dose of google reader, I saw this video on this site and laughed my bootie off. I knew I had to put this on my blog. (Warning:It does have one swear word in it.)

Although the majority of my friends and family have been normal and don't really fit into the smug category, I have known women like this. We all have known a few. The kind of woman that makes you want to b-slap them because they think they are better than you because they are pregnant and/or have kids. So, I thought I would put this video on here for your entertainment. Now that I am in the pregnant club, I will try my hardest not to be so. (But no promises.) ;] Enjoy!

100th Post and Exciting News...

So, the big 100! Never thought I would be a blogger, let alone 100 posts. I thought about having a giveaway or something in celebration of the big 100. But, instead, I decided to share a little secret with you all...

Yep....We’re Expecting! ;] There is a long and a short version of the story. But, since this is my blog, I am giving the long version. Feel free to skim through what I have highlighted for the benefit of those who would have preferred the short version. ;]

I went to the doctor for my annual visit in April on a Thursday and they kept saying things and asking questions that made me wonder if I was pregnant. But I wasn't due for a visit from Aunt Irma until the next day. I took the test Friday morning. It came back positive. I waited until Sunday morning and then took the test again. Another positive.

I decided to wait to tell Michael until Sunday evening. He had a big test (Chemistry Praxis-which he did fabulous on) on Saturday and I didn't want to add any more stress or distract him. I decided to keep myself occupied while he studied and I made a scrapbook page that had the title, "Guess What" and on the next page it said we were pregnant. Also on the page I included a copy of a CD with a bunch of songs about or with baby in the title. On Sunday evening, after dinner, we were sitting on the couch talking. I asked him if he wanted to see the new scrapbook pages I had done. Being the sweet and supportive husband he is, he said he did. I showed him the pages from a book I had been doing of my sister's life. He liked them. Then I showed him the other book with the pregnancy pages. He opened it up and looked at it for about 5 seconds and then looked at me with a smile on his face. He was excited. We hugged and kissed. It was a sweet moment.

We then talked about when we would tell everyone. We decided to wait until after my first ultrasound to make sure all is okay. We had our first ultrasound at 6 1/2 weeks (I love my doctor!) and saw the baby's heartbeat. So awesome! We were very excited but, because of our previous miscarriages, we still felt like it was too early to tell the world. We told our parents and brothers and sisters once we were at around 8 weeks but decided to keep it on the down low for a few more weeks.

We are now 12 weeks (3 months) pregnant. YAY! We had another ultrasound yesterday and we saw the baby swimming around and I swear it waved at us. We heard the heartbeat and feel we can now share it with the world. We are due on December 30. We won't find out for another month or so if it is a boy or a girl but we are definitely going to find out. We are too impatient to wait until he/she is born. That and I'm a planner and too curious not to find out.

Although I have been super sick, we are super happy. Michael has been my hero during these last weeks. There is no better man in the world than my wonderful husband. Our little one doesn't like to help me eat food much except Wheat Thins, drinkable yogurt, and Dole Strawberry Fruit and Juice bars. (These were discovered due to much trial and error.) I have had to do IV therapy because of this and had to take a leave of absence from work for a bit. But it is so worth it even just to see that little one waving hello to us. People say the bond between parents and child starts at birth but they are wrong. We already love this little one with all of our hearts.

One last thing...thanks to all of you who have been praying for us. As I have told family and friends of our news, I had no idea how many people had been praying for us to get pregnant again. Thanks for your prayers and support. We have the greatest friends and family in the world! Love to all!

Today is my sweet husband Michael's birthday. He is the best husband in the world. He takes such great care of me. He is always so thoughtful, kind, and generous. I am so glad I met him and am lucky enough to have such a wonderful man as my husband. He shows me and tells me daily how much he loves me. I feel very blessed to have him in my life. I love you, my honey bunches of yumminess! I hope Michael Fest 2009 this week will be all you hoped for and more!

Happy Mothers Day...Continued

So, for almost the last year I have been working on a scrapbook to be given as a present to my Mom of my sister Laurie's life. For those of you who don't know of Laurie, she had Down's Syndrome and passed away last year rather unexpectedly. She was and is the favorite of us all. She was the oldest in my family, which is very rare. They are usually the youngest and quite a bit younger than the rest of the family. It's also really rare because my parents had 5 relatively "normal" children after they had Laurie. (We are all a bit crazy.) Anyhoo. I finally gave it to my Mom for Mother's Day. It was so fun to see her reaction. It honestly was the best present I have ever given. Very self fulfilling. (Is it bad that giving the present brought me so much joy?) Not only did I love looking at my sweet sister's face while working on the book but the joy and happiness on my Mom's face was so worth all the effort. My Mom will probably kill me but here is her reaction to the book:

We were all hovering around the book and looking at the pictures while my Mom told us stories of the pictures and the background behind them. Some of her baby pictures I was clueless about the history. I left the journaling blank so my Mom could fill it in. She has the most beautiful handwriting I have ever seen. I, unfortunately, inherited my Dad's handwriting. I am planning on scanning the book once my Mom fills in the journaling portion of the book and then giving a copy to all of my brothers and sisters for birthdays. Everyone is really excited. I also had the idea to email all of my extended family and ask them to send me their favorite memories of Laurie to include in the book. It was so much fun to read how much Laurie was adored and admired by so many people. We sat around and read the stories people sent. We laughed and cried. It was so great. It brought back all of the reasons why Laurie is so special to us. I am so glad I was able to do this for my Mom. Love you Mom! I hope you had a great Mothers Day!

Flightmares

I was reading a post on this blog site and it reminded me of my very own flightmare story. I have had some interesting experiences but the following story has to be the worst of them all.

After backpacking through Europe with a friend for almost a month, we were on our flight back to the USA. We were on a flight from Brussels, Belgium to Atlanta, Georgia. We weren't able to sit together because the flight was pretty full. My friend was stuck next to a very large woman who took most of her seat. I was stuck in between 2 large, pervy and very drunk guys. They had been on a 9 day brewery tour in Germany. They kept staring at my ladies and drooling whilst drinking more beer! They kept trying to get me to drink with them and I swear they tried to put something in my drink while I had gone to talk to the flight attendant. It was all fizzy. Needless to say, I didn't drink it. They kept coming on to me and asking if I wanted to join the mile high club with them. It was so disgusting. I've never wanted to hit someone in their "generals" so much in my life before this moment. I would have but they might have enjoyed it. I felt very violated. I finally demanded to be moved. They had me sit in the area reserved for flight attendants in the back. They were the same seats as the regular passengers (not the jump seats) so I was fine to sit there and "try" to sleep. They kept getting up to take care of people but I didn't care. Even though I was away from the drool and disgusting men, all I could smell the entire flight home was the shmelly sick that was these two guys. Disgusting! Worst flight ever!!
